What is wrought iron? : definition
Wrought:
1. (of metals) beaten out or shaped by hammering.
2.made or fashioned in the specified way..
Wrought iron:
a tough malleable form of iron suitable for forging or rolling rather than casting, obtained by puddling pig iron while molten. It is nearly pure but contains some slag in the form of filaments
Wrought iron normally is heated in a forge ( with fire) and worked with tools on the anvil.
Wrought iron is another durable member of the ferrous metals family.
Wrought iron is an alloy with very little carbon content.
Why is it called mild steel?
Mild steel is named for its low carbon content, which makes it malleable, ductile, and less brittle. These properties allow for easy processing, such as rolling, forging, and welding.
Does mild steel rust?
Mild steel is very reactive and will readily revert back to iron oxide (rust) in the presence of water, oxygen and ions. The readiness of steel to oxidize on exterior exposure means that it must be adequately protected from the elements in order to meet and exceed its design life.

What is a Ferrous Metal?
The word ‘ferrous’ comes from the Latin word ‘ferrum,’ which means ‘iron. ‘ Ferrous metals include as well alloys of iron with other metals (such as with stainless steel).
Properties of Ferrous Metals
Ferrous metals may include a lot of different alloying elements. Some examples are chromium, molybdenum, vanadium, and manganese. Those give ferrous steels material properties that make them widely used in engineering and wrought iron work.
Ferrous Metals Examples
Mild steel | Steel | Sheet metal | Wrought iron | Cast iron | Nickel | Stain less and more..
What is a Non-Ferrous Metal?
Non-ferrous metals do not contain iron. They are softer and therefore more malleable. They have industrial uses as well as aesthetic purposes – precious metals like gold and silver are both non-ferrous. Actually, all pure metal forms, except for pure iron, are non-ferrous. as: ALUMINIUM | LEAD | ZINC
